How to Regain Creative Momentum This Fall
After a summer of slower rhythms and looser schedules, fall is the perfect time to refocus on your creative goals and your creative business.
Maybe you let your sketchbook gather dust in July… or spent more time at the beach than on your computer (no judgment!). But now, as the days get shorter and the back-to-school feeling kicks in, you might be craving structure, direction, and a creative reset.
Let’s talk about how to get back on track and why now is the perfect moment to reignite your momentum.
1. Fall Is Prime Time for Creative Business
If you’ve been part of my community for a while, you might remember a recent blog post where I talked about setting goals for the back half of the year. Fall isn’t just a fresh start. It’s also the power window for creative entrepreneurs.
Think about it:
Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and of course, Christmas and Hanukkah.
That’s not just a festive list. It’s your opportunity.
According to the National Retail Federation, up to 30% of a small business’s annual revenue can come from the final three months of the year. That means what you do now can dramatically shape your end-of-year results.
If you want to sell your designs on products, pitch a licensing collection, or upload seasonal art to a print-on-demand platform, now is the time to be creating.
This is exactly why I’ve created a special Q4 Planning Workshop for members of Anne’s Atelier. It’s a brand-new bonus designed to help you plan and prep your holiday offers, product launches, and creative output with plenty of lead time.
More on that below, but just know: if you’ve been looking for a reason to recommit to your art or business this season, this is it.
2. Break Big Dreams into Small Wins
If “get ready for holiday sales” feels overwhelming, you’re not alone.
Vague goals are hard to act on. They sound important, but your brain doesn’t know where to start. That’s why I always recommend turning a big dream into a series of small, achievable milestones.
Here’s an example:
Instead of:
“I need to get ready for holiday sales.”
Try:
“I’ll create 10 new patterns for Halloween and Thanksgiving by September 30.”
That’s a SMART goal:
Specific: 10 patterns
Measurable: You’ll know when you’ve hit the target
Achievable: Not 100, just 10
Relevant: Aligned with your business goals
Time-bound: There’s a clear deadline
Another example:
“I’ll list 5 holiday-themed products on a POD platform by October 15.”
Once you set these mini goals, you can work backwards to schedule time on your calendar. I do this all the time in my own business—breaking launches, pattern collections, or content plans into bite-sized action steps.
Inside Anne’s Atelier, we do this together. Members set monthly goals, check in during our live working sessions, and keep each other accountable. It’s one of the best ways to stay consistent, especially when your motivation starts to dip.
3. Stay Current: POD Changes & New Platforms
The world of print-on-demand is always shifting, and it’s important to stay up to date.
For example, Society6, which used to be a beginner-friendly platform, is now a closed ecosystem. Only high-volume, pre-approved designers can list their products there. That means if you’re just starting out, you’ll need to look elsewhere.
The good news? New opportunities are popping up all the time. What matters most is that you’re aware of the shifts and actively researching where your work can thrive.
One of the best ways to do that? Join a community of creatives who are sharing resources and insights in real time.
In Anne’s Atelier, members regularly post about new licensing opportunities, trending products, and platform updates. It’s a supportive space where you can ask questions like:
“Has anyone tried this site?”
“What mockups are working best for you?”
“How far in advance should I start designing for Christmas?”
If you’ve been trying to navigate this journey solo, now’s the time to plug in and get the support you need.
