What I’m Learning About Podcasting
When I first wrote down “Start a podcast” in my 2020 goal planner, I had no idea it would take me five years to actually do it.
But I also didn’t know that a global pandemic was around the corner… or that my online course would take off in ways I never imagined during that time.
So while the podcast idea simmered on the back burner, I poured my energy into teaching, building community, and refining my creative business framework. Looking back, I don’t regret the delay. The truth is, we all have seasons. And this year, it finally felt like the right season to start.
Today, I want to share what I’ve learned from finally launching The Creative Business Spark. A project that’s already bringing me joy, new connections, and valuable lessons. Whether you’re curious about podcasting or just need a gentle nudge to take action on something you've been putting off, I hope this gives you some helpful insight.
Here are my top takeaways from launching a podcast (finally!) in 2025:
1. Just Start, Even if It’s Messy
Like I said, this idea has been with me since 2020. And I had all the “reasons” not to start: I was too busy. I didn’t know what tech to use. I wasn’t sure what my format should be. I didn’t want to sound awkward. The list goes on.
But at some point, I realized the only way to move forward was to simply begin. Not with perfection, but with intention.
I started The Creative Business Spark with six short episodes that outline my proven 6-part framework for building an online business from scratch. These episodes were actually part of my pre-launch strategy for The Creative Business Blueprint. I figured: why not repurpose something I already know works?
And here’s the big takeaway: Starting, even when things aren’t perfect, is what moves the needle. Action creates clarity. If you’ve been sitting on an idea for a while, maybe this is your sign to stop waiting.
2. Choose a Path (None Will Be Perfect)
When I was finally ready to go, I didn’t research every podcast platform under the sun. I just asked: “What’s the easiest way to get this out into the world?”
I’ve been using Kajabi to host my courses and membership for years, and sometime between 2020 and now, they added podcast functionality. So I used it. It was already integrated into my business and super easy to set up.
From there, I connected the podcast to Spotify and Apple Podcasts in just a few clicks. Done and done.
This is a great reminder for any creative entrepreneur: You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Use what you already have. The simplest path is usually the best one, especially when you’re doing something for the first time.
3. The Tech Is Easier Than Ever
One of the most surprising joys of podcasting for me has been learning how to use Descript.
It’s an editing tool that turns your audio into text, so you can edit your recording like a Google Doc. Cut out filler words? Easy. Move a sentence? Just drag and drop. Add music? Just click and upload.
I’ve been having so much fun with it. I even added intro music, sponsor clips (where I highlight my own programs), and a little “swoosh” sound effect to cue transitions.
If you’re curious about Descript, here’s my affiliate link so you can check it out for yourself.
What’s exciting is how accessible these tools are now. You don’t need a big studio or fancy equipment. If you have a message to share, the tools are ready and waiting.
4. Listen For Input & Recommendations
The feedback I’ve gotten from listeners has truly surprised me. Even though the first six episodes are short, just five or six minutes each, people are reaching out to say how much they love listening to my voice, that it’s calming and encouraging.
One listener told me it’s the perfect thing to tune into during a creative block, just a quick dose of inspiration to help get unstuck.
Several people have also said they’d love longer episodes and even guest interviews. So yes, that’s coming! I already have a list of potential guests and topics.
But for now, I’m just enjoying the process and grateful that this new format is resonating with people in a meaningful way.
5. Content Repurposing Is a Game-Changer
One of the biggest benefits of podcasting has been how easy it is to repurpose content I already create.
For years, I’ve written a blog post every Tuesday. I also broadcast a livestream on Facebook and YouTube every Wednesday to expand on that blog topic.
Now, I take that same blog and record it as a podcast episode. It’s another way to reach my audience, especially those who prefer listening while they’re walking the dog, working in the studio, or driving to work.
So if you’re creating content already, think about how you might expand your reach by showing up in new formats. Repurposing isn’t just smart, it’s efficient.
6. The Real Lesson? Take Messy Action
Here’s what I really want you to hear:
You don’t need a perfect plan. You don’t need every piece figured out. You just need to start.
If you wait for the stars to align, you’ll be waiting forever.
And I say that as someone who waited four years to do something that now brings me so much joy. Sometimes we put pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out. But progress happens when we take the first step, imperfect, unsure, and all.
It’s never too late to create. And it’s never too late to try something new.
