Bonus Blog: My Simple Tech Stack Revealed
Hello, creative friend! Now that we’ve wrapped up the blog series on my 6-part framework for how to create a business you love, even if you’re starting from scratch (like I did), it’s time for me to answer one of the questions I get all the time:
“Anne, what technology do you actually use to run your business?”
I love this question because when I first started, the tech side of building a creative business felt really overwhelming. If you’ve ever said to yourself:
“I’m not techy!”
“I don't know where to start!”
“It all feels too complicated!”
...you’re in good company. I was right there with you.
Let me tell you a quick story.
When I First Started: The Tech Overwhelm Was Real
Remember how I shared the story of getting laid off from my corporate job when I was in my late 50s? In addition to the trauma that caused, as I started to think about what to do next, I was terrified of the tech that might be involved. You may laugh but… I used to give my iPhone to my husband when something wasn’t working.
I have never thought of myself as tech savvy but I am willing to do hard things to achieve my goals. You’ve heard me say this: We can do hard things!
In the very beginning of my journey building a creative business online, as I was still figuring everything out, my business tech was a complicated patchwork of different tools that didn’t always play nicely together.
I used Mailchimp for my emails.
A completely separate tool for opt-in pages (maybe LeadGen? The name is fuzzy now!).
My website and blog were (and still are) on Squarespace, which I love — but that meant yet another separate platform.
I needed Zapier to connect Mailchimp to my opt-in pages and courses. (Zapier felt like learning a new language!)
I uploaded videos to Vimeo, which meant another subscription and more tech.
For livestreaming, I had Ecamm, but I also needed Restream to broadcast to multiple places at once.
And I’m likely forgetting a few more bits and bobs that I tried to use and found too complicated!
It worked...sort of. But it was clunky, confusing, and time-consuming.
Here’s the biggest lesson:
It’s not just the money you spend on tech tools that matters. It’s the time you spend trying to connect them all and fix issues that arise. Time = Money!
The Big Shift: Investing in Simplicity
At a certain point, I realized, if I wanted to grow, I had to simplify.
That’s when I made the decision to invest in Kajabi. It felt like a big investment at the time, but it replaced several different tools at once and saved me countless hours (and headaches). Remember, time = money.
Suddenly, everything was integrated:
Email marketing
Landing pages
Digital product hosting (courses and membership sites)
Payment processing
Customer tagging and automations
And because it was all built to work together, I no longer needed Zapier connections or patchwork solutions.
Fewer tech fires to put out.
More time to focus on creating, learning and building my business.
Greater peace of mind.
If you’re looking for a way to simplify your business, Kajabi is a fantastic all-in-one platform. (And if you want to check it out, I’m an affiliate and highly recommend it.)

The 3 Key Pieces of Tech I Use Today
Here’s exactly what I rely on to run my business today.
1. Squarespace (My Website + Blog Home)
I’ve used Squarespace for my website since the very beginning, and I still love it.
Think of your website like your store front to the world.
It’s where people can browse your work.
It’s where I house my blog (yes, the one you’re reading right now!).
And it’s the hub that connects people to my offers, resources, and programs.
Squarespace is beautiful, intuitive, and perfect for creative businesses like ours.
2. Kajabi (Everything Else!)
Kajabi is my:
Email Service Provider (ESP)
Course platform
Payment processor (it gives customers multiple ways to pay)
Landing page builder (for challenges, video series, etc.)
Customer management system (through tagging and automations)
Podcast hosting platform (for my new podcast, Spark!)
Having everything in one place keeps my business organized, scalable, and efficient.

3. Ecamm (Livestreaming Made Easy)
Every Wednesday, I go live to chat with my audience about that week’s blog topic.
I use Ecamm because it lets me:
Broadcast to both Facebook and YouTube simultaneously.
Record the entire session automatically (no more worrying about Facebook’s 30-day expiration!).
Repurpose content easily — I can chop up a 25-minute live into shorter videos for social media.
It’s one of my favorite tools for connecting with my community and making the most of my content.

My Advice If You’re Feeling Overwhelmed
If you’re just starting out or feeling stuck in tech overload, here’s what I recommend.
Start simple.
You don’t need to use every tool under the sun. You need a few solid systems that work together seamlessly.
Think long-term.
Saving a few dollars per month by using 5 different platforms might seem smart at first, but if you’re losing hours every week troubleshooting, reconnecting, and stressing... it’s costing you far more than you realize.
Choose tools that grow with you.
Both Kajabi and Ecamm have grown alongside my business. I’m grateful I made those investments when I did.
Final Thoughts
Tech doesn’t have to be scary. It doesn’t have to be complicated.
If I can learn it — after feeling completely overwhelmed early on — you can too. And you don’t have to do it all at once.
One step at a time. One tool at a time. You’re building something amazing, and the right tech can help you do it faster, smoother, and with a lot less stress.
I hope this gives you a clear window into what runs my business behind the scenes. If you’ve been thinking about simplifying your tech stack, now’s a great time to start.
