Peach Fuzz Pantone Color for 2024

Every year, the design world eagerly anticipates the announcement of the Pantone Color of the Year. This tradition, which began in 1999, started when Pantone’s educational arm, the Pantone Color Institute, wanted to engage the design community and color enthusiasts around the world in a conversation around color. Pantone's color experts scour the world for new color influences from various sources, including the entertainment industry, travel, art, fashion. Influences may also come from new technologies, materials, textures, and effects that impact color. Pretty much anything that takes place in our culture is part of the mix.

For 2024, Pantone has chosen "Peach Fuzz". The idea behind this color choice is to radiate warmth, coziness, a sense of comfort and positivity, a color representing renewal and optimism. We’re living in interesting times. Many might say stressful times because of global events and the speed of change around us. I’m curious if you like this new color? I imagine opinions will vary with some loving it and others not.

How the Color of the Year Impacts Trends Across Various Industries

The Pantone Color of the Year significantly influences product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design. Let’s watch for how it shows up across those and other domains.

I expect it to show up in spring and summer fashion collections, offering a fresh, soft look. I’m already using a soft peachy color on our front door and in several rooms in our home. The front door in peach is softer than the traditional red. The color is versatile, pairing well with high-contrast hues for a bold statement or with soft, muted tones for a more subdued approach. We’re using it as the wall color in our living room paired with off-white colors on the couch and chairs. Darker red accents create contrast and “pop” on the cushions and carpet.

How We, as Surface Pattern Designers, Might Use the Color in Our Work This Year

As surface pattern designers, embracing Peach Fuzz in our work this year can be a lot of fun. How about using it in:

  • Nature-Inspired Designs: Use Peach Fuzz in floral patterns, where it can mimic natural elements like peach blossoms or sunsets. This color harmonizes beautifully with greens, blues, and earth tones. I stayed with a narrower color palette for this Flower Power design.

  • Geometric Patterns: Combining Peach Fuzz with contrasting colors in geometric patterns can create a modern, dynamic look. This approach is perfect for home decor items and fashion accessories. I focused on the geometric pattern for my Foulard design.

  • Textile Designs: For textiles, Peach Fuzz can be used in ombre effects, creating a soft, soothing gradient that's ideal for linens, curtains, and upholstery. I haven’t done a design like this yet but look forward to giving it a try.

  • Packaging Design: In packaging, this color can convey a sense of luxury and exclusivity. It's perfect for beauty and personal care products.

  • Seasonal Collections: Incorporate Peach Fuzz in seasonal collections, especially for spring and summer, to align with the color's warm and vibrant energy.
