Here’s where you’ll find replays of my weekly Facebook LIVE broadcasts on art, creativity and surface design.

5 Reasons Why It’s Not About The Stuff

August 7, 2019

Enrollment is open right now for my signature 8-week online course and training program, The Pattern Design Academy. You can learn more about it and all the stuff that you get HERE. However, this week’s Anne TV is not about the stuff. It’s about the intangible benefits that students tell me about all the time. Here are 5 of them for you to consider.

Meet Heather Lowery of inkwoodpress.com

July 30, 2019

One of the very best things about teaching Surface Pattern Design is the students I have the privilege of meeting and mentoring. I’m thrilled to introduce you to Heather Lowery, an accomplished woodblock printer who started to explore Surface Design earlier this year as a way to expand her business.

3 Way Surface Pattern Design Will Enhance Your Business

July 23, 2019

I’m back to talk about the benefits of exploring surface pattern design. Let’s start from the beginning to make sure everyone understands what surface design actually is. I had never heard of it before and didn’t realize it was such a huge creative industry. Let’s define it together.

Do you get that nagging feeling that you could be doing something creative with your life but you don’t know where to start? I hear this a lot inside my creative community. I’m here to tell you, implore you in fact, to watch this video. I share 3 super practical tips to help you get started.

Another 100 Day Challenge Completed!

July 9, 2019

This year’s 100 Day Project ends tomorrow: Wednesday, July 10, 2019. It’s been an amazing experience leading 50+ women in the challenge this year. I created a private Facebook group for us to ensure we’d have a safe place to post our work, provide encouragement and cheer each other on each day. The breadth and variety of artwork produced is inspirational and incredibly motivating.

7 Reasons to Take Imperfect Action

July 3, 2019

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately when writing this blog. I’m the kind of person who spell checks and proof reads before I’ve even finished my first draft. It would probably be much more efficient for me to jot down my general ideas and write out a first draft. And then do all the massaging, editing and proofing. But I can’t seem to work that way.

5 Insights Into Embracing The Creative Process

June 18, 2019

I think I mentioned that I’m leading a 100 Day Challenge right now with a group of 50 creatives in my community. We are on Day 78 of 100 which feels amazing. The reason I’d like to talk about this is because I entered this year’s challenge with the goal of using my iPad Pro, Apple pencil and an app called Procreate every day for 20 minutes for 100 days in a row. What I discovered is that my love of the overall process is what has kept me going when I wanted to quit, switch gears or felt unmotivated or lacking in creative ideas.

5 Ways to Get Unstuck

June 25, 2019

Are you feeling unfulfilled, stuck, or generally lacking in creativity right how? It happens. You may be hard at work inside my 8-week Academy program and need a breakthrough. Or you may still be dreaming about surface pattern design and putting your own beautiful designs on real products but you don’t know where to start. Or maybe you’re just not feeling well due to allergies or June gloom, that Southern California weather pattern with cloudy, overcast skies.

You’ve Always Had The Power, My Dear

June 5, 2019

I’m thrilled to introduce you to Kathleen Lambert, one of the students in my Surface Pattern Design Academy program. She completed the course back in March but once you are in the program, you are in my community forever! I can’t wait for you to meet her. She is such a great example of a strong woman who has always put others first and finally decided to invest in herself. Learn about what she is creating!

My Journey (so far) in Surface Pattern Design

May 23, 2019

My journey has not been linear! Yours might not be either. I started out thinking that I would produce and sell physical products with my designs on them. I love the stationary business and everything that you put on your desk: paperweights, pencils with pretty wrappers, notepads with patterned borders, and of course journals and notebooks! However, over time, I realized that I love to teach. I come from a family of teachers and I even married into a family of teachers. What came next?

Top 5 Tips to Survive (and ENJOY) the 100 Day Project

May 8, 2019

The 100 Day Project started as a workshop led by Michael Beirut, a professor at the Yale School of Art. I learned about this last year. To participate, all you need to do is pick a design task that you can repeat every day for 100 days in a row.  The only “rule” is that you do the same action, in some form, every day.

I’m leading a small group right now if you’d like to join us.

What I Learned From Amy Porterfield This Weekend

April 8, 2019

I attended the Kajabi Impact Summit this past weekend and an incredible line up of speakers shared their wisdom with us. Online business leaders including Amy Porterfield, James Wedmore, Jasmine Star, Chalene Johnson and Brendon Burchard imparted their wisdom from years of growing their online businesses and personal brands. I was incredibly blessed to be invited to participate on a panel during the event. More about my panel later. My first time on stage! Let me share my biggest takeaways from the event.

I have kind of a big thing coming up in ten days and I’m terrified. I’ve been asked to participate on a panel at the Kajabi Impact Summit in Southern California. Here’s how I plan to get through it. I hope these five tips serve you.

What’s An Artist Date?

January 31, 2018

A foundational element that helped me begin this journey is a fabulous book by Julia Cameron called: The Artist's Way. Julia's deep belief is that creativity is the natural way of life. The book is organized into twelve chapters and Julia recommends you dive into a chapter each week. Two pivotal tools she teaches are "morning pages" and "the artist's date".

June 12, 2019

Several comments have popped up in our private Facebook group about creativity, originality, and how to stay both current and fresh in your design work. Let’s talk about it.

Are You Ready to Join The Online Education Revolution?

May 14, 2019

I’m incredibly excited to talk to you today about the revolution that’s happening in online education. Online education isn’t new. It’s been around for more than 20 years but it’s absolutely exploding right now. What’s exciting about this new age is that advances in technology have opened up access to education like never before. Just like Airbnb gives you more options for accommodations and Uber and Lyft give you more options for transportation, online courses give you access to education like never before. And that’s incredibly exciting.

An Ode To Notre-Dame De Paris

April 17, 2019

Watching the inferno rage inside the Notre-Dame cathedral yesterday was heart breaking. After getting the CNN alert on my phone, I rushed to turn on the TV. But after several minutes, I couldn’t watch anymore. The images of the burning inferno erupting from within her were too much. I couldn’t handle the feeling of helplessness combined with sadness at the impending disaster.

YES YOU CAN (Conquer the Tech)

April 2, 2019

I was just looking up the saying: “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Who said this originally and what does it really mean? According to knowyourphrase.com, this idiom dates back to the 1500s. What’s interesting is that the original meaning was about how it’s hard to learn how to do something differently when you have been doing it a certain way for a long time. However, that’s totally different from learning NEW things. Here are my top 5 tips for how to keep moving forward when you are learning new technology so that you don’t give up!

Is There Room For Me?

March 5, 2019

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. I’ll be opening The Pattern Design Club, my monthly surface design membership, in a few weeks. I only open it up a few times a year to welcome students who have completed my Academy program. One of the questions I get most often is: “Isn’t the industry over saturated?” “Is there really room for me?” My answer is a resounding YES, there is room for you! Here are my top five recommendations for you.
