The Business Of Surface Design
April 17, 2019
Normally, on my weekly Facebook LIVE broadcasts, I dive deeper into the topic covered in my blog post for the week. However, this week I wrote my blog as an Ode to Notre-Dame de Paris because of the disastrous fire that destroyed much of the cathedral on Monday. You can read that post by clicking on the red READ POST link below. That topic is much too emotional for me to talk about live because I grew up in Paris and attended Mass off and on at Notre-Dame. Instead, in this video, I talk about the business of surface design and how important it is to lean into your creativity and what brings you the most joy. That will help you determine how to create a thriving business that you truly love.

I attended the Kajabi Impact Summit this past weekend and an incredible line up of speakers shared their wisdom with us. Online business leaders including Amy Porterfield, James Wedmore, Jasmine Star, Chalene Johnson and Brendon Burchard imparted their wisdom from years of growing their online businesses and personal brands. I was incredibly blessed to be invited to participate on a panel during the event. More about my panel later. My first time on stage! Let me share my biggest takeaways from the event.

I was just looking up the saying: “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” Who said this originally and what does it really mean? According to knowyourphrase.com, this idiom dates back to the 1500s. What’s interesting is that the original meaning was about how it’s hard to learn how to do something differently when you have been doing it a certain way for a long time. However, that’s totally different from learning NEW things. Here are my top 5 tips for how to keep moving forward when you are learning new technology so that you don’t give up!

I’m launching The Pattern Design Club, my monthly surface design membership, in a few weeks. I only open it up a few times a year to welcome new students and one of the questions I get most often is: “Isn’t the industry over saturated?” “Is there really room for me?” My answer is a resounding YES, there is room for you! Here are my top five recommendations for you.

A foundational element that helped me begin this journey is a fabulous book by Julia Cameron called: The Artist's Way. Julia's deep belief is that creativity is the natural way of life. The book is organized into twelve chapters and Julia recommends you dive into a chapter each week. Two pivotal tools she teaches are "morning pages" and "the artist's date".
